The Regimens to Stabilize the Fetus

Aindri, brahmi, satavirya, sahasravirya, viswaksenakanta– wearing of these herbs on head or in right hand; intake of milk or ghee cooked with the same; taking bath with the same in every pusya star.  She should always keep these drugs with her.  Over and above, she should also use constantly all the drugs of Jivaniya group (vitalizers) with the above methods.  Thus the regimens which stabilize the fetus are described.

CHANGE OF SEX IN FOETUS

Change of sex is effected before it’s manifestation by vedic rites properly performed because the actions performed with excellence of place and time certainly produce desired results otherwise not.

Hence considering the woman as pregnant she should be administered pumsavana (measures which help procreate a male progeny) before the fetus is manifested. After taking two undamaged leaf-buds from the easterly and northerly branches of a banyan tree grown in a common place and putting them in curd alongwith two excellent black gram or white mustard seeds, it should be given to the woman to drink in pusya star.

Similarly, the paste of jivaka, rsabhaka, apamarga and saireyaka– collectively or individually as required, added with milk; or putting a kudyakitaka (a type of insect) or matsayka (a small fish) in a handful of water should be given to drink in pusya star. 

Small and fire-colored man-shaped pieces of gold, silver or iron put in curd, milk or handful of water should be taken wholly in pusya star. In the pusya star itself, she should inhale the steam coming from the preparation of sali rice while being cooked. She should also use a drop with a cotton swab in the right nostril of the liquid made of the flour mixed with water and put on the threshold. Whatever useful measure for pumsavana is suggested by Brahmanas or reliable ladies, that should also be applied. Thus the measures for pumsavana are said.

Conception - 3

Rule # 10 :  If the benefic planets  (Mercury – Jupiter – Venus)

(a) be with the Moon or in the ascendant

(b), or if they occupy the 2-4-5-7-9-10 from the Moon or the ascendant, there will be safe delivery, provided malefic planets occupy the third or eleventh house from the Moon or the ascendant, and the Moon or the ascendant is at the same time aspected by the Sun.

Rule # 11 :  If (a) the rising sign, the Sun, Jupiter and the Moon be powerful and occupy the odd (male) signs and the odd Navamsas, the issue will be a male child  (At the time of conception or of during a query)

(b) if they occupy the  even (female) signs and the even Navamsas, it will be a female child

(c) if again, the Sun and Jupiter

[If some planets in male and some in female signs of Navamsas, then the sex of the issue will be that which predominates]

(d) occupy the odd signs, the issue will be a male child; and if the Moon, Venus and Mars

(e) occupy the even signs, the issue will be a female child. Also, if the Sun and Jupiter occupy the two male double bodied Navamsas  [The planets should be powerful also]

(f) and be aspected by Mercury, the issue will be male twins ; and if Venus and Mars occupy the two female double bodied Navamsas [Gemini and Sagittarius]

(g) and be aspected by Mercury, the isssue will be female twins. [Virgo and Pisces]

Rule # 12 :   If at the time of Conception or of a query, Saturn occupy any of the odd signs from the rising sign, the issue will be a male child.

[The sex of the issue in all the above cases shall be determined by the position of the most powerful planet]

Rule # 13 :  If at the time of conception, the Moon and the Sun occupying respectively any of the even and odd signs, aspect each other or

b) if Saturn and Mercury occupying respectively any of the odd and even signs, aspect each other or

c) if Mars in an odd sign aspect or aspected by Sun in an even sign, or

d) if the Moon and Lagna in odd signs be aspected by mars (in an even sign)

e) if mars aspect the moon and Mercury occupying respectively even & odd signs or

f) if venus, lagna and Moon occpy males sings and male navamsas, the issue will be hermaphrodite.

[These Napumsaka yogas take effect only in the absence of male and female yogas]

Conception - 2

Rule # 5 :  In the case of conception by day, the Sun and Venus represent respectively the father and the mother.  And by night, Saturn and Moon represent respectively the father and the mother. 

In the former case, Saturn and Moon represent the Paternal Uncle and the Maternal Aunt.

In the latter case the Sun and Venus represent the Paternal Uncle and the Maternal Aunt.

If the planets representing the Father and the Paternal uncle should occupy the odd signs, or If the planets representing the Mother and the Maternal Aunt should occupy the even signs at the time, then the Father, Mother, Paternal uncle and the Maternal Aunt all would be happy.

Rule # 6 :  If at the time of conception malefic planets occupy the 12^th house, and if then the rising sign be not aspected by benefic planets, or if Saturn occupy the rising sign and be aspected by the waning Moon and Mars (in either case), the pregnant woman will die.

Rule # 7 :  If at the time of Conception, either the rising sign or the Moon or both between malefic Planets, and at the same time not aspected by the Benefic planets, the pregnant woman will die.

Note :  As the malefic planets only  be three – Sun, mars and Saturn, both the rising sign and the Moon can be between them at the same time, either when they are together or occupy two alternate houses.  The malefic planets might occupy either the 12^th or the 2^nd houses from the Ascendant or the Moon or both, or they might occupy the Navamsas on either side.

Rule # 8 :  If at the time of Conception, malefic planets occupy the 4^th house and mars the 8^th house from the Ascendant or the Moon or again if Mars occpy the 4^th house and the Sun, the 12^th house from the Ascendant and if it be a Waning Moon at the time, the pregnant woman will die.

Rule # 9 :  If at the time of Conception, Mars occupy the Lagna and the Sun occupy the 7^th house, the pregnant woman will suffer death from weapons.  If the lord of any month be afflicted, pregnancy will miscarry during that particular month.

SAFE DELIVERY

If the benefic planets be with the Moon or in the Ascendant, or if they occpy the 2-4-5-7-9-10 houses from the Moon or the Ascendant, there will be safe delivery, provided malefic planets occpy the 3^rd or 11^th houses from the Moon or the Ascendant, if aspected by Sun.

Conception - 1

On Nisheka Kala or The Time of Conception

1. The menses that appear monthly, because of Mars and the Moon

(a) bring about conception when the Moon is in one of the Amipachaya signs

(b) If the Moon be otherwise

(c) and be aspected by a benefic male planet

(d) there will be sexual union between a woman and her husband.

NOTES :

(a) Menses appear in women whenever the Moon is aspected by Mars, that is especially when the Moon occupies the 4th, 7th or the 8th house from Mars. 

In connection with this subject the author ofSaravali says : 11 The Moon is water; Mars is fire; a mixture of water and fire is bile; when the bile mixes with the blood, menstrual discharge occurs."

(b) If, when aspected by Mars, the Moon happens to occupy one of the Amipachaya signs in the horoscope or nativity of the woman, at the time of the appearance of the menses, conception will follow. The Upachaya signs are the 3rd, 6th, 10th, and the llth houses from the ascendant ; and the other signs are known as Anupachaya signs.

(c) That is from the time the woman bathes on the 4th day, when the Moon reaches one of the Upachaya houses in the horoscope or nativity of the husband. (d) There will be sexual union between the husband and wife if the Moon is aspected by Jupiter when powerful.

The Commentator adds that if the Moon is aspected by the Sun, the woman will have sexual union with an officer of the king ; if aspected by Mars, then with a voluptuary ; if aspected by Mercury, then with a person of fickle mind; if aspected by Venus, then with a beautiful person ; if aspected by Saturn, then with a servant ; and if aspected by several malefic planets, the woman will become a harlot."

2) The sexual union will be of the nature of the union of creatures represented by the setting sign. Again,if at the time of sexual union, the setting sign be either occupied or aspected by malefic planets, such union will' be attended with anger, and if by beuefic planets, it will be attended with play and laughter.

NOTES : The Commentator adds that if! the setting sign be occupied or aspected by both malefic and beuefic planets the union will be attended with both joy and displeasure.

3. If, at the time of sexual union, the Sun, the Moon Venus and Mars be in their Navamsas 

(a), or if Jupiter occupy the rising sign or the 5th or the 9th sign from it, such union will produce a child. To persons devoid of virility, the above Yoga (planetary positions) will be as useless as the rays of the Moon to the blind.

NOTES- (a) The Commentator adds that there would also be conception when these four planets are not in their Navamsas, if the Sun and Venus should occupy the Upachaya signs in the horoscope of the man and at the same time be in their Navamsas, or if Mars and the Moon should occupy the Upachaya signs in the horoscope of the woman and at the same time be in their Navamsas.

4. If at the time of conception, either Mars or Saturn should occupy the seventh house from the Sun or the Moon, the man and his wife would respectively fall ill

(a) but if one of the two planets, Mars and Jupiter, should occupy the twelfth and the other the second house from the Sun and the Moon, or if one of the planets should be in conjunction with the Sun or the Moon and the other should aspect either the Sun or the Moon, the man and his wife will respectively meet with death.

(a) In the month of Mars or Saturn as the case may be

(b) In the month of either Saturn or Mars whoever is powerful.

The Commentator adds that the two effects described in the Stanza will occur before and not after the birth of the child.

[BRIHAT JATAGA : CHAPTER-II]

Nishekam

Nisheka is used to denote the first sexual contact, while Garbhadana has reference to the subsequent deflorations.  Consummation as it is actually the beginning of the prenatal existence of the child. Sexual union, pregnancy and reproduction of human species are the essentials on which the world exists. Sexual union should never be based upon simple sense gratification. There is a sacredness about sexual functions, and when moral and spiritual considerations are not respected and brought into play; the result will be most unsatisfactory and alt sorts of undesirable progeny would be the products of promiscuous cohabitation.  When a man and a woman are brought together sexually a series of electrical currents would be released which actually reacts on them favourably or un-favorably depending upon the resistance power on the human body or with harmonious or discordant nature of the vibrations released upon them.  Therefore it is needless to mention that the first sexual act should not be treated lightly and should be done only when planetary combinations are favourably disposed for the natives.


Indulging in coitus or sexual union on the first 4 days of menstural cycle will lead to serious evil effects as the whole physiological and nervous system of the woman which would be in a state of tension owing to the almost continuous discharge of blood.Copulation on the 5th day tends to give rise to a daughter. In general, sexual union on odd days indicates birth of female children while on even days. the birth of male children is indicated. In the first instance, sexual union is highly recommended on the 6th day of the menses as it is supposed to ensure not only happiness to the couple but also the birth of a dutiful and intelligent son.




Sravana, Rohini, Anuradha, Swati, Revati, Moola, Uttara, Uttarashadha, Uttarabhadra. Satabhisha stars are highly favourable for nuptials. Pushyami, Dhanishta. Mrigasira, Aswini, Chitta. Punarvasu are ordinary. The rest of stars are unfavourable and to be totally avoided.




Monday, Wednesday. Thursday and Friday are auspicious days while Saturday, Tuesday and Sunday should not be considered at all.  All lunar days-except the Chathurthi, Ashtami, Navami, Chathurthasi, Poornima and Amavasya are good.  The favourable signs are Taurus to Libra and Pisces. The birth star  the 10th star and the 19th star (Janma, Anujanma, and Thrijanma stars) should be avoided.  At the time of nuptials, the 8th house should be occupied by no planet. Subject to this provison, even Sagittarius and Aquarius may be selected as auspicious.
